All-girl comedy is no error!
6:40am Friday 3rd September 2010
IT will be an all female cast at Hylands House for the production of Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors.
The Bard’s plays are littered with gender-bending and his original productions were told by a cast of men.
DoT Productions is embracing the cross-dressing and giving audiences a whole new perspective with an all-female cast.
The Comedy of Errors is Shakespeare’s shortest play, and director Mike Dodsworth uses this and a little extra trimming to create a snappy, energetic show. A handful of actors switch from role to role and gender to gender, ramping up the energy and comedy of this farcical piece.
The play tells the tale of two sets of identical twins that were separated in childhood, leading to one of each set continuing their lives together. Thirty three years later one pair arrives in the home of their twin brothers prompting false accusations, beatings and unexpected seduction caused by mistaken identity.
The show takes place at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, on Sunday, at 5pm.
Tickets are £5. For booking information please visit www.dot-productions.co.uk or call 07583 334457.
