Amy's dream meeting with JLS
7:30am Friday 10th February 2012

A SCHOOLGIRL’S dreams will come true when she meets one of the biggest boy bands in the country.
Amy Gilbert, 11, was set to meet her pop idols JLS this week as part of a two-day treat that has been organised for her family.
She suffers from the debilitating brain disorder, polymicrogyria and her aunt, Tracey Barber, wrote to the Make-A-Wish Foundation to request the special meeting. Amy, who attends Hylands School, in Hatfield Grove, Chelmsford, regularly suffers from epileptic fits which come on without warning. “It can sometimes be in the middle of conversations,” explained Amy’s mum Joanne.
“It means she needs constant supervision wherever she goes.” The onset of Amy’s condition first began five years ago when she suffered from constant sickness bugs as well as feeling disorientated. Unable to live her life in the same way as her friends, Amy battles with learning difficulties and is unable to go out alone.
Although she used to be majorette, she had to give up the hobby because of the tiredness she suffers and difficulties that arose with mastering routines.
Many other activities are also out of bounds but the chance to meet the former X Factor contestants and Brit award winners has given a boost to a very excited Amy.
Her love of Aston, Marvin, JB and Oritse began when she first saw them on hit the ITV show and she has followed them ever since. Joanne added: “Amy would most love the band to sing her a song. When it comes to actually meeting them face to face, she will probably feel pretty shy.” Amy was also going to be joined by her brother, Jake, who is in Year 10 at Hylands, and her mum and dad on the trip planned for Tuesday to Thursday this week.
It included a two-night stay in a London hotel and an experience on the London Eye.
