Top cop's reassurance over station closing
7:00am Thursday 9th February 2012
CHELMSFORD’S top cop has reassured councillors and residents who are worried about the potential impact of losing their police station.
Moulsham Lodge is one of 21 front counter service desks that will close as part of Essex Police cost cutting.
At Monday’s meeting of Chelmsford Council’s overview and scrutiny meeting, Chief Insp Steve Ditchburn said he will “strive” to make sure residents get the same service they do now, when councillor Mark Springett expressed his worries about the closure.
“I can assure you the officers who are based there will spend as much of their time as humanly possible in that area,” Mr Ditchburn said.
“They won’t be dragged anywhere else.
“Any station that’s closing will be a concern in terms of the community impact but the officers and PCSOs will be based in that area on patrol.
“I like to think it won’t have an impact, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
